Setting up Outlook Express Message Rules

This page has been created for people who put the default Spam filters in place and want to create a Junk Mail folder to capture all the Spam.

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook Express.
     
  2. Click Tools at the top, then Message Rules > Mail.
     
  3. Select the Conditions for your rule: scroll down and select "Where the subject line contains specific words."
     
  4. Select the Actions for your rule: select "Move it to the specified folder."
     
  5. Item 3:  Rule Description: click on the blue  "contains specific words", type Spam, click Add and click OK.  The rule should now read where the Subject lines contains 'Spam'.
     
  6. Click on the blue "specified" folder.  Highlight the Inbox folder, then select New Folder.   For folder name, type in Junk Mail, then click OK, then OK again.
     
  7. Name of the rule: type your rule's name Spam and click OK.
    Your New Mail Rule should look like the screen below.  If it does, click OK.



     
  8. At next screen, click OK.

     
  9. Your Junk Mail folder has now been created.
