Registry Hack For Disabling MS Content Advisor

If you have enabled your Content Advisor rating system in Internet Explorer and you have forgotten your password, you will need to edit your registry or reinstall Windows and all of your applications.  If you do this procedure incorrectly, it their entire operating system. As a result, you will want to back up your system before you start this procedure. This only works for Windows ’95/98.

Note: The only way the rating system will turn " on" is if someone enables the Content Advisor. Internet service providers never enable it.

  1. Go to the Start, then run and enter in regedit
  2. Click on Hkey_Local_Machine
  3. Then Software
  4. Then Microsoft
  5. Then Windows
  6. Then Current version
  7. Then Policies
  8. Then Ratings
  9. On the right hand side of the screen, delete the line that says Key.
  10. Exit out of the registry.
  11. Goto Start then Programs then Windows Explorer
  12. Goto the C drive and go to the Windows folder.
  13. Locate and open the System folder.
  14. Find the Ratings.pol file. Rename the file and you are done.
