Quick Links On This Page: | Creating A New E-Mail Account | Importing E-Mail & Addresses From Another Program | Skip To Advanced Setup Option | Return To Main Windows Page | Setup Instructions: The Eudora 5 setup "wizard" is an easy way to setup your e-mail accounts. It will start automatically the first time that you open Eudora. It will also start whenever you create a new "personality" for other e-mail accounts for yourself or other users of that same computer. Before getting started, you will need to have each e-mail address registered with your ISP. You will also need the address, login, password and mail servers before you get started. The e-mail login will be the first part of your e-mail address. The mail server address will be something like mail.ispname.com. For example, santaclaus@northpole.com would have "santaclaus" as the login and mail.northpole.com as the mail server address. If the "new account wizard" doesn't pop-up then click the tools menu and choose personalities as shown below. Otherwise, click here to skip to the wizard. A window will pop-up in the left frame that looks something like the following picture. Use your right mouse button to right-click on "dominant" and choose the "new" option. The new account wizard will pop-up and you're ready to start. The first screen of the setup wizard is pictured below. Click "next" to continue. The following window gives you four options. The first option is the basic setup. The second option will pull your old e-mail settings, addresses and old e-mail messages from another program that you were previously using on the same computer. For example, if you are upgrading from Eudora Light 3.0 then choose the "import settings" option and it will use the old e-mail settings while bringing your old mail and addresses into the new program. Don't choose the ACAP option if you see it. (It's not always included.) If you are a fairly strong computer user then you might want to choose the last option to "skip directly to advanced account setup." We'll cover all except the ACAP option. We will begin with the first choice to "create a brand new email account" but you can skip ahead to the other options by clicking one of the following links: (1) Import Settings (2) Skip Directly To Advanced Setup. Click "next" when you have made your choice. Begin by putting in your name. It doesn't have to be your real name and it doesn't have to match your e-mail name. This will be the name that people see when they receive an e-mail from you. Click "next" when you are ready. Put in your full e-mail address. Be careful not to put any extra spaces in the box. You can type the "@" sign by holding down the shift key and the number "2" at the same time. Click "next" when ready. (Note: You can click the back button at any time to change prior answers.) Your login name will be the first part of your e-mail address. In other words, it's the part immediately preceding the @ispname.com part of the e-mail address. Click "next" when you are ready. The incoming mail server address will be something like mail.ispname.com with your ISP's own name. Be careful not to choose the IMAP option. You must have POP selected. Click "next" when ready. The outgoing mail server will probably be the same as the incoming mail server address. Once again, it will be something like mail.northpole.com. Be sure to have a checkmark in the "Allow authentication" box by clicking on that box if needed. Click "next" when ready. You're all finished. Click the "back" button if you need to make some changes or click the "finish" button to finish the process.
Import Settings Including Address Book & Old E-Mails: If you still have the same e-mail address with the same ISP and you are using the same computer that you used to use to check e-mails then you can switch to Eudora 5 and pull all of your old settings, e-mails and addresses by choosing the import option shown below. Click "next" when ready. Eudora will pop-up the following window. It will show every e-mail program that is installed on your computer. Under each program, there will be a list of every e-mail account that is setup in that program. Click in a box to choose the account that you want to "import" to your new Eudora 5. You also need to check the boxes below to import old e-mails and/or old address book info. Click "next" when you have done so. Note: You can only do one account at a time but you can always come back and do more of them. Click "finish" to conclude the process. That was simple. All of your old e-mails and addresses should now be loaded into Eudora 5.
Direct Skip To Advanced Setup: Most techs and computer specialists prefer to choose the advanced account setup option. It's the quickest way to setup Eudora to check your e-mail. Just click in the appropriate circle and click the "finish" button. The following window shows the first tab of the setup. That is the "generic properties" tab. If this isn't your first e-mail account in Eudora then you will need to name this e-mail's personality. You also need to put in your name, address, login and SMTP server address as shown below. Don't worry about default domains, stationery or signatures at this time. Be sure to put a checkmark in the last box to tell Eudora to check that account when checking e-mails. Don't hit "OK" yet! Click the tab at the top where it says "incoming mail" to get to the next window. The incoming mail tab is where you set the server. It will be something like mail.ispname.com. The configuration must be set for POP. The authentication style must be set for "passwords." Do NOT put a checkmark in the box for "leave mail on server" because this will cause problems. You don't want to leave your messages on your ISP's system anyway. When you check your e-mails, they "download" to your computer so don't leave them on the ISP's server. Click "OK" and you're all setup.
